This quirky high-end hotel is set in a converted brewery in Henley-on-Thames. In keeping with the Hotel du Vin ethos, there’s an emphasis on quality food and wine, and the river itself is just the distance of a well-popped cork away.
From 1812 until 2002, the buildings occupied by the hotel were in active use as the brewery of local firm Brakspear. The hotel has kept hold of this heritage without skimping on style, and the result is somewhere spacious and cleverly designed. Low-level lighting, wooden floors and even iron stairways are commonplace, but it all comes together very well. Artworks, such as old Cinzano posters, add colour. The reception area occupies the former brewery office.
