Last Saturday our travels took us back to Henley On Thames where I had the pleasure of being the wedding DJ for Alex and Liz at The Hotel Du Vin.
My name is Kai and I am a specialist Wedding & Event DJ based in Marlow, Bucks. I hope that this article helps in the planning of your event or wedding. Here is an account of my experience being an Hotel Du Vin DJ for the evening.
This historic former brewery is just 50 yards from the beautiful riverside, the hotel features its own French bistro. It’s clear instantly that a great deal of thought and planning had gone into the day.
The entire team at Hotel Du Vin are always entirely professional and friendly. It’s clear that the staff here take real pride working in such a lovely setting.
The wedding party were dining in the Canata room where we placed 4 purple uplighters to create a slightly warmer ambience. The wedding disco would take place in the slightly larger room (Ruinart) just down the corridor. Ruinart remains in keeping with the industrial heritage of the building with exposed beams, brickwork, and ironwork as well as a magnificent floor to ceiling bespoke mural.
The acoustics are also great in this room and its the perfect size if your wedding is on the smaller size of under 100 guests. We set up our star dj booth with focus lights and two light scanners on each side. We love this look. Its not over the top like many wedding dj set ups and the lights do a great job of sweeping the whole room as and when they are needed. Nothing is worse than dancing to your favourite songs at a wedding with multi coloured lights constantly flashing in your face!
The happy couple were clear with the music and feel of the evening they were hoping for and I was more than happy to deliver! I played non stop 80s classics from Michael Jackson to Madonna. A request for Love Shack soon got the party atmosphere going! I wouldn’t normally recommend a themed music night for a wedding. Mainly because as there is always a broad age range its best to play to a crowd rather than stick to a theme. This wedding was most definitely an exception to the rule. Everyone was ready for a 80s party and had a great time.
The atmosphere was incredible and there was a whole lot of love in the room! To see the smiles on the faces of guests and of course the stars of the show is really special. As a wedding DJ it’s the most satisfying part of the job. To know that the day has finished on a high and lifetime memories have been made is really special. What did I play at the end? Madness ‘It Must Be Love’ of course!
